Throughout the 2024–2025 school year, Silicon Valley Sunshine Interact has continued its commitment to environmental stewardship by organizing regular cleanups at the Palo Alto Baylands Nature Preserve. Since adopting a section of the Baylands Trail in spring 2024, club members have visited the site bi-monthly to pick up trash, sort recyclables, and help preserve the delicate wetlands ecosystem.

Rain or shine, volunteers showed up with gloves, buckets, and trash grabbers, collecting dozens of pounds of waste—from food wrappers and plastic bottles to discarded fishing lines and microplastics. The cleanup initiative not only beautifies the area but also protects native wildlife and supports biodiversity in one of the Bay Area’s most important natural habitats.

This project has been especially meaningful to our members, many of whom enjoy walking, birdwatching, and biking along the Baylands trails. Through these cleanups, students have built a deeper appreciation for the importance of environmental responsibility and collective action. Thank you to all the members of the club who have showed up to clean up.
