From November 22 to January 7, Silicon Valley Sunshine Interact led a Secret Santa project for youths in custody, helping the Palo Alto University Rotary Club and its BooksPlus Committee with support from Rotary member Judy Koch’s Bring Me a Book Foundation. Nonprofit Fresh Lines for Youth (FLY) who serve Bay Area youth impacted by the justice system provided holiday greetings and a holiday dinner. Club president Sydney Ling assisted with sorting through and creating wish lists for Rotarians to fulfill, and receiving the gifts for storage at her home. She kept track of over 100 packages, updating and marking the delivery statuses on a spreadsheet. Club member Eddie Ling assisted with sorting, labeling, and preparing the packages and books for pickup based on receivers’ names. Sydney then helped load the leftover boxes that arrived later for storage at Judy Koch’s home. Thank you to Sydney and Eddie for their help in bringing gifts of joy and caring to youths in custody who could not be at home with their families during the holiday season at Santa Clara Juvenile Hall and James Ranch.
