Throughout AAPI heritage month in May, Silicon Valley Sunshine Interact displayed a collection of six posters celebrating the legacy of Asian Americans. Club members began researching and designing posters in the summer of 2023 that touched on the history and contributions of Asian Americans. Topics included the garment workers strike, Asian American immigration, Asian American cultural institutions, Asian American movements in the mid 1960s, Japanese internment camps, and Anti-Asian political legislation. The posters were previously exhibited at the Palo Alto Art Center and 2024 Lunar New Year Fair. During each week of May, the posters were displayed at local schools — Harker School (Upper School and Middle School campuses), The Menlo School, and Palo Alto High School. History teachers especially commended the display for highlighting the importance of Asian American history and praised the thorough research. Thank you to Sydney Ling for organizing this summer project and to Ethan Wang, Angela Rao, and Elise Chen for coordinating with high schools to share Asian American history with more people. Next year, the posters will continue to be displayed at more schools.
